Hello everyone, today I will start to make some new videos again For the past year I was busy with travel, training and competing. Also coaching. So today I will do a video about how we should defend in singles. Defence in singles as you know we will always set our position low. But I want you to set your racket foot always forward compared to your non racket foot. If you’re right handed then you want your right foot forward . If you’re left handed then you want your left foot forward. Will look like this. Your racket foot is always forward. For defence in singles, your racket is also very important. The common mistakes that you just go side to side based on what you have been taught. That is your bad habits. If you want to improve your defence, You have to watch the shuttle, wherever the shuttle goes your racket gotta be there. For example if your opponent attacks and the shuttle goes flat then your racket will catch it wherever it goes. But if they hit a steep shot then you have to catch it low. Wherever it goes you have to be there. Do not always just go side to side and expect it just like a habit. Watch the shuttle carefully, then go. Your opponent always gonna hit a lot of different shots Sometime it goes flat, sometime it goes steep, sometime it goes deep to the back. So your racket has to be quick and able to catch the shuttle before it touches the floor. In defense I always use one touch rule. One touch then go. Will look like this. Hit then one touch go. (one bounce) You should not just hit then return to the center and wait. Do not wait in the center, then go, that is not good. If you wait too much, your footwork rhythm is off. It won’t be beneficial for your defence, use one touch go will be better. Now I will use one touch then go. will look like this. When you use one touch rule do not go off the ground too high. Always try to stay close to the floor. Look like this. Do not go off the floor like this. One touch go. If you want to improve your defence you have to control your one touch well and make it accurate. what is accurate? So I don’t want you to just hit then run back to the centre like this. You don’t have to run so fast to the center and just wait for your opponent . What you should do is you go back and hit. When you opponent makes contact with the shuttle. They can clear, drop, smash… whenever and wherever they contact and hit the shuttle, use one touch go to get there. Your one touch rhythm gonna be the same with your opponent when they contact the shuttle. For example I will hit a clear then I will wait for the shuttle to make contact with their racket. Clear, watch the shuttle, when it makes contact then I will quickly react by using one touch go. Like you see. No need to wait in the center for so long. When you wait and your feet are stuck in the centre, opponents will always hit a lot of shots. You will be stuck because you can’t react that fast. But when you able to master your one touch go. Your defence will get much better. You see I always wait for my opponent hit then use my one touch rule on exact same moment. Always control the shuttle. Make sure is always goes deep to the back. It will help you improve your defend too. Control the shuttle, and the way you watch their body angles while they’re hitting the shuttle. That will help you a lot too. How to watch your opponent’s body? It meant always watch their body their racket position . It’s really easy if you focus enough, their body can be aggressive or their body can look just neutral. When they jump and look aggressive, you know they might try to attack you. But you have to stay calm and watch, then react to it. Do not panic. Now is one more drill you can use to improve your one touch go rule. There will be two feeders at the front. They will feed at the net so I can go up and lift the shuttle. The other one will feed to the side so can can go side and block the shuttle. Like the beginning of the videos I talked about Wherever the shuttle goes your racket gotta be there to block it. flat your racket gotta be here. If the shuttle goes steep then your racket have to be low enough to catch it. Like you see. I lift the shuttle. I go back center then one touch go. I never run nonstop like most people do. If you run like crazy, your rhythm is off then your defence won’t be consistent. You won’t be able to react during a match. Lift the shuttle focus on the shuttle. Whenever they hit, you use one touch go. If you use one touch go you will see your defence will get way better. So today I showed you guys how I defend in single. First of all your body have to stay low and ready, focus on the shuttle . Second of all is one touch rule like I mentioned Finally is your racket wherever they hit your racket have to be quick there. I hope this video will help you a bit to improve your defend in single. Thank you so much for supporting me. I will try my best to make more videos for you guys and hope you will get somethings out of it. THANKYOU!!!!!!!!
