So this is Eli,
who we’ve been told has the record for the
most claps in one minute. – Is that right?
– Yep. So how did you realize that
you can clap so fast? Well, when I was
in high school, I saw the original record holder
for most claps in a minute. I was a sophomore
in high school and I watched a video
of him online and just started trying
to figure it out. Took me about a week to
figure out how to do it and then figured out a way
to hit twice per arm motion and then suddenly could go
a lot faster with it. Okay. So why don’t we run
through the technique you use? Sure. You want to hit
your wrists and then
your fingertips. So you hit your wrists. But then instead of
stopping, you let it pull
right down from there and then it resets. It’s just way more
complicated than… It’s basically just,
you know, doing that. Okay. So first let’s just see
you do it on your own. We’ll get it on the Phantom
cameras 1,000 frames a second. So time will be slowed down
by over 40 times. Okay. Now let’s see
those double claps. Okay. All right, excellent! It’s like the sound blurs
into one at that point. It’s not just a hand. It’s like a mouse’s heartbeat. It’s just like a
hum almost, isn’t it? Yeah. All right.
Let’s review your claps. See how many you got
in one second. So 17 is the world record
that you got, right? Yeah. Still in your prime? Well, we’ll see, huh? Dan: One, two… 13… that’s a bit
of a shoddy one. Eli: Yeah.
( laughs ) Gav: Questionable. Dan: 15, 16, 17…oh! Eli: Almost 18. Gav: So you got this
right on the cusp! Eli: That’s funny. Gav: That’s extremely
consistent. So I’ve seen what you
can do slowed down. And now we’ll face off and be embarrassed. I’m gonna go on this side. A round of applause
for the winner. Sorry. Can I get
some lube, actually? Yeah, yeah.
You want some too? – I’ll take some too.
– Sure. Just a little bit there. One, two, three, go! I’m not even slapping! I’m just rubbing
my hands together! All right, that’s
enough of that! I’m rubbish! I was just
doing this. The whole time. Gav: Look at your face! Are you doing
that on purpose? Dan: No, I was freaking out.
Like I was not getting it. Look at that mess that is!
Look at that mess! I, like, missed my hands. Is it a clap
if you did that? I’m like hitting
the back of my hands. Gav: Your fingers are
such a mess. Eli: Like it’s nothing. What is that? How did you
miss your hand? Gav: It just looks so clumsy
when we’re doing it. I wasn’t even trying to… Dan: Look at your fingers.
It’s just a mess. I’ve given up here
at this point. I’m just like
I haven’t got this. I’ve just not got this. Gav: It’s comical. But it’s exactly how I thought
it would turn out. Big thanks to Eli
for coming out and showing off
his clapping skills. Be sure to let us know
if you ever get 18 in a second. Yeah, I will. Round of applause. Thanks. Forget it, forget it. Well, thanks very much
to all our fastest people. Witnessed some amazing
feats of speed. I feel like we made some
very talented new friends
in this episode. I wonder how many years
of practice combined
overall it was. – Oh, decades.
